The area around Siem Reap use to be the capital city of the Khmer Empire, which is surrounded by temple structures dated back thousands of years ago. It's amazing how these massive structures could have been built without modern technology and transportation. The stones that were used were taken from the Kulen National park area about 2 hours drive away. In addition to the massive structures, each one contains detailed stories of Hindu and Buddhist religion carvings within the stones. It's amazing how much detail is in each carving. You just have to see it for yourself.
We visited the major temples around the area from sunrise to late afternoon. It was hot, but with an A/C van, cold towels, and cold water, we managed. Gerald wasn't feeling so well in the afternoon so we decided to skip the sunset viewing of one of the temples.
We both learned so much and enjoyed our time in these magnificent structures. I'm still in awe!
